The spirit of integration reached a high point during the dedicated Burundi Day celebration, which transformed a section of the Trade Fair into a showcase of the nation’s rich cultural heritage and growing economic landscape. The event was officially graced by a high-level delegation from Bujumbura, emphasizing the country’s commitment to East African integration.
The day was musically defined by the thunderous, world-renowned beat of the Royal Drummers of Burundi (Intore Dancers). This display of strength, synchronised rhythm, and vibrant traditional attire captivated the crowds, serving as a powerful reminder of Burundi's rich cultural legacy.
Showcase of Burundian Enterprise
Beyond the cultural spectacle, the Burundian pavilion buzzed with exhibitors promoting their unique products. The focus was on high-quality agricultural exports, with numerous stalls showcasing premium Burundian coffee and tea, widely celebrated for their distinct high-altitude flavour profiles.
Artisans also presented exquisite traditional handicrafts, including intricately woven baskets (ibiseke) and distinctive pottery, highlighting the skilled workmanship of Burundian MSMEs. These exhibits demonstrated how local craftsmanship is adapting to regional market demands, firmly linking local production to the larger EAC regional value chains.
The discussions held on Burundi Day centred on investment opportunities, particularly in value addition for the agricultural sector and simplifying processes for its youth and women entrepreneurs to access financing and regional markets, aligning with the Fair's theme of sustainable development.
The day concluded with a message from the delegation, reinforcing Burundi's role as a vital Partner State committed to resolving trade barriers and deepening economic ties with its neighbours to ensure shared prosperity across the community.
